Our youth mission team left Valdosta to drive to Chattanooga, Tennessee, on Monday, July 6. They are working in conjunction with several other churches this week at a Son Servants youth mission trip. Our group is replacing a roof for an elderly widow in Chattanooga, and will work on this same project all week. They are staying in rustic cabins in Harrison Bay State Park. In the evenings they have worship, games, teaching, and a little free time. On July 7, Fr. Dave sent back this summary of their activities: “Overall lots of work and lots of fun.”

Kate Hanson, one of the mission team members, has been commissioned by Fr. Dave to relay photographs during the trip back to the Christ Church congregation. As her photographs come in from their activities, a selection of them will be posted below. A larger set will be posted in this Picasa album and in this Facebook album.

The team was commissioned at Christ Church on Sunday, July 5. Since Fr. Dave is a member of the team, the Rev. Daniel Shoemake, our Associate Rector, gave the commissioning prayer and blessing. Click this image to see more photographs from this mission trip.

Swimming is a favorite activity after work each day. The state park has 40 miles of shoreline along Chikamauga Lake, and was originally developed as a Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) recreation area in the 1930’s. Click this image to see more photographs from this mission trip.
